Neighbor Charged with Attempted Murder in Hatchet Attack

A West Fargo man is now charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking his neighbor with a hatchet over the weekend.  Kokouvi Mawuena Afidegnon was arrested on Friday after a his neighbor told police she was attacked while walking to his car. The woman ran to a nearby house to escape when, she says, Afidegnon threw the hatchet through the window.

Afidegnon faces several other charges in the incident including aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and simple assault. The charges stem from Afidegnon hitting his neighbor with a hatchet, knocking down another woman who was trying to intervene, and throwing the hatchet through a window, which damaged another person's home.

ORIGINAL STORY

A West Fargo woman is recovering from wounds after reporting an attack Friday night. The West Fargo Police Department responded to the 200 block of 8th Avenue West at about 5:30 last night, when a woman told police she was attacked while walked to her car. She said her neighbor, Kokouvi Mawuena Afidegnon, ran after her with a hatchet.

The woman ran to a nearby house, trying to escape. That's when she says Afidegnon threw the hatchet through the window. An ambulance took the woman to Essentia Hospital. Her condition isn't known.

Afidegnon was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
