Teen Charged with Sexually Assaulting Girl in her Sleep

Posted: Updated:
A 19-year-old has been charged in Cass County Court for apparently raping a 15-year-old girl while she slept.  Devin John-William Hillman is charged with Gross Sexual Imposition and Corruption of Minors related to the February incident.

The girl told deputies that in February, she went bowling with some friends and they ended up having a few alcoholic drinks at a home in Mapleton. She recalls going to bed about 2:00 a.m. She says Hillman asked if he could lay next to her and she said no, so he went to lay on a different couch instead.  The 15-year-old says she woke up to Hillman having sex with her without her consent.

According to court documents, the girl told him to get away and other friends staying at the home got involved. They were able to get Hillman to go upstairs and lay on a different couch so the girl could sleep. During police interviews after the incident, a friend told investigators that she heard the girl saying "stop that, get away from me."

Interviews have been conducted with both Hillman and the 15-year-old, their parents, and other teenagers present the night of the incident. Investigators say the girl's mother is adamant that her daughter never lied about her age or led Hillman to believe she was older than she was.

The investigation into this case remains ongoing. Hillman's first court hearing has not yet been set.
