US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx Comes To Casselton

Nearly four months since the Casselton train disaster, work continues to find solutions for rail safety. US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx met with North Dakota leaders at the Casselton Fire Station to discuss what has been accomplished on the rails, and what issues still need to be addressed.

Secretary Foxx says he wants to get a safer system in place, but there are important hurdles to overcome. "Look, the reality is that we are moving as fast we possibly can to an answer here but we want to make sure we are attacking this issue with the right solution. The worst thing we can do is propose a tank car standard that's inadequate to the material that is being transported,” says Foxx.

Since the disaster in Casselton, BNSF says they've made big advancements in getting North Dakota rail cars equipped to haul the more volatile crude that comes from the bakken.
