Teen Killed in Wadena ATV Accident

Posted: Updated:
One Minnesota teenager has died, another injured, when the ATV they were riding on rolled on Monday evening. The Wadena County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call of ATV rollover at the intersection of Apache Ave and Cree St. in Wadena Township at approximately 6:30 Monday night.

When Officers and Emergency Personnel arrived, they found a Polaris Ranger side by side that rolled onto the driver's side. The driver, 16-year-old Christine Kaye Alberts from Wadena, Minnesota, had severe head trauma and was transported to Tri-County Hospital where she later died. Another girl riding on the ATV, a 15-year-old from Wadena, was transported to Tri-County and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Sheriff Michael Carr said the ATV was traveling south on Apache Avenue about 20 miles per hour when Alberts swerved towards the ditch. Officers say she  over-corrected and the vehicle rolled throwing both girls from the ATV. Sheriff Carr says neither the driver or passenger were wearing seatbelts or helmets.
