Clay County Judge Publicly Reprimanded

Posted: Updated:
A Clay County, Minnesota, district judge has been publicly reprimanded after a series of complaints over his behavior.

On Monday, the Minnesota Board of Judicial Standards accused Judge Steven Cahill of failing to follow the law in six cases, issuing improper ex parte orders in four cases, being “chronically late for court,” being discourteous to staff, issuing an untimely opinion and attempting to visit a litigant.

The Board has ordered Cahill to select a mentor to help him identify the causes of his misconduct and propose a plan to demonstrate how he will address the issues identified in the public reprimand.
