NDDOT Plans Several Major Construction Projects

Posted: Updated:

As the snow melts and the temperatures rise, that means construction season will be upon us soon. The North Dakota Department of Transportation unveiled their 2014 projects, which will include impacts on Interstate-94 from a 25th Street project in Fargo, Highway 46 near Kindred, and projects on Gateway Drive and Washington in Grand Forks.

25th Street in Fargo

The 25th Street interchange project has been developed by the city of Fargo and will include impacts to I-94 users and 25th Street Users. 25th Street will be widened to three lanes each direction between 23rd Avenue and 17th Avenue South. This includes widening both sides of the current bridge over I-94. A new on ramp will be constructed for northbound 25th Street to eastbound I-94.

A concrete Pavement Repair project for Interstate-29 through Fargo was pushed back to next year so travelers have an alternate route during 25th Street widening.

Highway 46 Near Kindred

Construction on North Dakota Highway 46 near Kindred, North Dakota, will be a two year project. Work will be done between Interstate-29 and Highway 18, or about 15 miles. The NDDOT also has a 23 mile project in the Enderlin area. This is the start of a three year project to rehabilitate Highway 46 between I-29 and Highway 32.

Interstate-29 Near Hillsboro

On the interstate near Hillsboro, there will be a Concrete Pavement Repair project. The repair will go from the Blanchard Exit to the Mayville Exit in both the south and northbound roadways. This is similar to the work we completed on I-94 in Fargo last year. We will also grind the passing lane in this area to improve the ride.

Interstate-94 Near Casselton

The NDDOT will be completing a micro-surfacing project on I-94 between Raymond and Casselton. This is a preventative maintenance strategy that can extend the life of a pavement, similar to the project that happened last summer on Interstate-94 in Fargo. The project this year from Raymond to Casselton will be done in the westbound lanes.

Grand Forks Area Projects

Interstate-29 will be reconstruction between Buxton and Thompson, North Dakota. Approximately 10 miles of northbound roadway will be completely reconstructed. Traffic will be head-to-head on the southbound roadway for the season.

Several concrete pavement repair projects will be completed in and around Grand Forks. Gateway Drive (Highway 2) will be repaired from I-29 west to the city limits. That project is scheduled for mid-June through August. Highway 81 or Washington from 32nd Avenue to 13th Avenue will also get pavement repairs. This is one of the heavier traveled routes in Grand Forks, so drivers should expect lane closures, delays, and reduced speeds from mid-June to August.
