A new plan is in the works to get downtown Grand Forks rockn'.
The "Downtown Development Association" is inviting everyone to its kickoff event next Thursday. It's called, "Downtown Day".
One of these days real soon, the snow will actually melt and the tress and grass will turn green again. When that happens, plans are in the works to get downtown Grand Forks rocking.
Jason Schaefer, Downtown Development Assc.: "A big part of this is visioning of the future of downtown and how we can make it even better. We love our downtown, but we think it's got even more potential."
Organizers say summer events like "Blues on the Red" are great. But, what they'd like to see are many more downtown events and all kinds of them.
Jonathan Holth, Downtown Development Assc.: "We'd like more music events downtown. A lot of downtown's have street fairs, so we definitely want to do some kind of street fair, where we close off some City blocks and bring in vendors from throughout the region and have people flock downtown."
It all kicks off next Thursday at the Empire Arts Center with "Downtown Day". It's free, open to the public and your ideas are welcome.
Jason Schaefer: "And our featured speaker is Doug Burgum. Doug is from Fargo. He's been very involved in the development of downtown Fargo and he's going to talk about why downtown's are so great and so important."
Organizers are hoping you'll start to think spring and bring your ideas of how to revitalize downtown… to "Downtown Day", next Thursday.
Downtown Day at the Empire at 4 PM, next Thursday in Grand Forks is free and open to the public. However, they would like you to register ahead of time.
