NTSB Points to Pilot Error as Cause of Crash Near Hawley

Posted: Updated:

The National Transportation Safety Board says the pilot who died in a plane crash near Hawley, Minnesota, this time last year wasn't prepared for the weather conditions he faced.

Kevin Ferris, 48, was flying from Wisconsin to Moorhead to visit family for Easter on March 29, 2013. His plane lost control and went down in dense fog near Hawley. Ferris was killed in the crash.

The NTSB says Ferris was a noninstrument-rated pilot and departed without a flight plan. The board says he made an improper decision to fly that day.
