Restaurant Report Card

Posted: Updated:

Another Tuesday brings another Restaurant Report Card, but this one's clean plate award has three times the meaning.

Valley News team's Kristi Larson tells us what restaurants have been written up for violations, and what franchise has now earned the award at all of its locations.

Many of the restaurants in our area do see a minor violation with in a year, but a handful of them are repeating violations, things they had been written up for months ago.

Applebee's in West Fargo just off 13th Avenue had another critical violation for not properly dating food being stored in the cooler. The manager said they have taken it as a learning tool and now have added it on their list of things to check every day.

The inspectors notes also wrote up Applebee's for a dispensing spoon handle was touching the croutons, a sink had a leaking faucet and the outdoor dumpster needed cleaning.

Mangos Mexican & American Grill also had repeated a critical violation of having a dirty walk in cooler.

But what's more surprising was to read the restaurant was thawing chicken on the counter. The inspector who checked the restaurant says that could lead to bacteria growing on the food that could make you sick.

The Manager from Mango's Valley News Live spoke with on the phone first said he didn't know what the last inspector had found, then said he had no comments at this time.

But one pizza and ice cream place in the F-M area takes the time to keep not just one, but all of it's locations spotless.

"Keeping a clean store is important, and we stress it a lot." laughs Manager Daniel Mullins at the West Fargo Happy Joe's Pizza & Ice Cream.

Happy Joe's has earned the clean plate award at it's North, South and now West Fargo location.

"You don't have a clean store people are going to come in they are going to perceive that and they are going to presume that we don't care. And that's all we really do here is we care, we want the customer to enjoy themselves and come to Happy Joe's and have a really good time." Mullins says.

He also adds it all comes from a team effort to keep it clean.

"I'm jumping out of my skin this is fantastic for us!" Mullins says with a smile.
