Grand Forks has its first, new hospital since Altru, the former United Hospital opened in 1976.
The Altru Specialty Center opened its doors on South Washington Street today, across the street from the Choice Fitness Center.
It's a 45-private bed hospital dedicated to orthopedic surgeries and inpatient rehabilitation services.
Altru officials say it's the only hospital of its kind in eastern North Dakota.
Brad Wehe, Altru CEO: "To be able to become more specialized and to bring all of those patients under one setting is really special for our area and our region."
Karla Bruce, Specialty Center: "Our patients are recovering from maybe a car accident or disability that we're… bringing them to get independent and getting them back into their home and Community."
Thirteen patients already moved into the new facility today. They were transferred from Altru's Rehabilitation Center, which will now be closed to expand the main hospital.
