Moorhead Schools Decide Against D-G-F Annexation

Posted: Updated:

The Moorhead school board has decided not to pursue the annexation of part of a neighboring school district, because of property tax increases.  The Moorhead Public School district and the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (DGF) Public School district have been in talks about moving the boundary between the two districts.

The Moorhead school district hired Ehlers, Inc. to analyze the impact of the boundary change. The results of that analysis were presented and discussed at Monday night's school board meeting.

Ehlers, Inc. found that if the proposed realignment were to take place, property taxes in Moorhead would have increased by about 2% for property owners in the new Moorhead School District. Property taxes would have likely decreased for those living in the newly aligned DGF school district.

Moorhead Public Schools representative Pam Gibb tells Valley News Live the school board decided not to go ahead with the annexation because of the increase in property taxes.  Gibb mentioned the proposal could resurface at a later date, but says no timeline is in place and the proposal is off the table right now.

If you'd like to know more about the proposed project, we've attached the full analysis and it's impact on both school districts to this story. Click on the link to the right of this story for more information.
