Chicago Train Derailment Leaves 30 Hurt

Posted: Updated:

An overnight train derailment at Chicago's O'hare Airport has left 30 people hurt.

The accident happened just before 3:00 a.m. EST when the commuter train jumped a bumper at the end of the track and moved up an escalator.

Emergency authorities say none of the injuries are life threatening.

At a news conference Monday morning, officials say it was immediately unknown if the train's motorman had some sort of medical problem prior to the crash but said that operator was walking, talking and answering questions afterward.

CTA spokesman Brian Steele, said it was too early to say what caused the crash but said video footage was being reviewed, personnel were being interviewed and that the National Transportation Safety Board had been notified.

The eight car train suffered damage primarily to the front two cars, but officials say they don't know the extent of the damage yet.

Once released, they'll break the train apart, move the train out and then tackle the car that's ended up on the escalator.
