Man Leads Deputies on Chase, Shots Fired

Posted: Updated:

A Bemidji man has been arrested after leading officers on a 10-mile chase into Becker County Friday night.

Ty Andree, 23, was arrested and taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Park Rapids for treatment of minor injuries. He's now at the Hubbard County jail on suspicions of possession of a stolen firearm and other charges related to the pursuit.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the case, after Becker County deputies identified Andree's vehicle as belonging to the suspect in a Detroit Lakes liquor store robbery. Deputies tried to stop Andree on Becker County Road 37 near Shell Lake; that's when Andree fled and the pursuit began.

Spike strips eventually disabled Andree's car on County Road 44, just west of Two Inlets. The preliminary investigation reports Andree left his car, armed with a shotgun, and approached two deputies, who took cover behind squad cars. Andree allegedly entered a squad car and took off. The deputies, who were from Hubbard County and Becker County, fired their guns after the stolen car.

Assisting agencies disabled the stolen squad car with spike strips.
No officers were injured during the incident. The deputies who fired their guns have been placed on paid administrative leave.
