Oil Spill in Western North Dakota

Posted: Updated:

The North Dakota Department of Health has been notified of a crude oil spill northeast of Alexander, N.D.

Highland Crude reported that a gasket failure on a line at a booster station allowed approximately 800 barrels of oil to be released.

Approximately half of the oil stayed within the containment area and half escaped into a dry drainage.

Department of Health officials say crews building berms to contain the oil, clean-up is underway, and a state inspector is on site to assist with remediation.

No surface waters were impacted by the spill.
