Hornbacher's to Anchor New Moorhead Business Development

Posted: Updated:

Update:

South Moorhead is on the grow with new homes and a new school being built. Now a shopping center, Hornbacher's and First International Bank will move to a vacant land along highway 75 also known as 8th Street. "Moorhead is ready and this is a great site to develop on," says Hornbacher's President Matt Lieseth.

This will be the second Hornbacher's in Moorhead and the only grocery store that far south. The development will be similar to the layout of the Osgood shopping center in south Fargo. "There's only convenience stores, but when you want to do your weekly shopping it is really gonna be handy for the people that live by," says Judy Olson, a long-time Moorhead resident.

Lieseth told Valley News Live that customers have been asking for another location in Moorhead for about ten years now. "This will be a huge Asset there and I can see where this will spurt that growth too, which is a plus for Moorhead," says Moorhead Mayor Del Rae Williams.

Horbacher's plans to break ground this summer and hope to open in early 2015.  About 200 jobs will be created at the new Hornbacher's and this new location would be the second largest Hornbachers store in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Additionally, the strip mall will have about 13 shops and those businesses have not been announced yet.

Orginal Story:

The Moorhead Economic Development Authority announced a major business expansion for south Moorhead on Thursday. Hornbacher's President Matt Leiseth unveiled plans to build a new 61,000 square foot grocery store and 50,000 square feet of retail/lease space and four additional out lots for new retail opportunities.

"As a Moorhead resident myself, I couldn't be happier to bring this new Hornbacher's store to Moorhead," Leiseth.  Kevin Christianson of Property Resources Group said the project will break ground in summer of 2014 south of Interstate 94 at 8th Street and 40th Avenue South.

The development will sit adjacent to the Azool shopping center and take on the same design and appearance as the Shoppes at Osgood in southwest Fargo that has Hornbacher's as its anchor. A First National Bank will also be moving to the Moorhead location.

Mayor Del Rae Williams said this an exciting time for Moorhead and a lucky time for her to be Mayor.  She is pleased Hornbacher's chose Moorhead for their second largest grocery store in the company.

This will be the 7th Hornbacher's store in the Fargo-Moorhead area. The existing Moorhead Hornbacher's store will stay open and Leiseth says a second Moorhead store makes sense given recent housing growth.

Hornbacher's hopes to have the new location open in early 2015 and will employee 200 people.
