A long-time Fargo city commissioner says he will run against incumbent Mayor Dennis Walaker in the city's upcoming election.

Brad Wimmer has served eight years on the city commission, eight years as a Fargo Park Board commissioner, and recently finished his term as President of the North Dakota League of Cities.

Wimmer officially announced his candidacy on Thursday morning at the Fargo Theater. At Thursday's news conference he said, flood protection, economic growth through a stronger workforce and heath & wellness initiatives will be his top priorities for Fargo as well as his experience.

Voters elected current Mayor Dennis Walaker to a four-year term in June 2006 and re-elected him in 2010. The next City of Fargo election is set for Tuesday, June 10th.
