Will it be Bruno Mars, Cher, Garth Brooks and more?
One of the largest music festivals in the City's history could be rolling into Grand Forks.
The Alerus Center and Engelstad Arena have joined forces to spend 1-million dollars for musical groups during a two-day festival on June 27th and 28th.
The City has O.K.'d another 50-thousand dollars out of its Growth Fund to promote it. It's also guaranteed to kick in up to 200-thousand dollars more… If the event loses money.
Greg Hoover, Grand Forks Growth Fund: "The Growth Fund was setup for a number of things and one of them was to assist in tourism to bring people into the Community. This sounds like a really good opportunity for that."
So, who will be rolling into town? Engelstad Arena Manager, Jody Hodgson says they have the opportunity to snag several major groups, who will be crossing through our area that weekend.
A look at upper Midwest concerts near the June Grand Forks Festival date, shows Cher in Winnipeg and Bruno Mars in Omaha. But, Hodgson says no… neither of those acts are in the running and he's not revealing any possibilities yet.
Whoever appears, city officials are betting it could be the start of something big.
Mike Brown, Grand Forks Mayor: "It's so wonderful to see the 2 premier entertainment facilities in the region work together. It's just going to be a wonderful event."
Reporter: "Could this turn into a major, annual event for the Upper Midwest?"
Brown: "That's what we're hoping. I think it's going to be a major, annual event for the Upper Midwest."
You can expect to hear much more in the coming weeks.
