MN Senator pushing for Federal Gov't to Cover School Lunch Co-Pay

Posted: Updated:

One of Minnesota's senators is pushing for the federal government to cover a 40-cent co-pay if a child can't come up with money to pay for a school lunch.

This is the third time in five years that Senator Al Franken has introduced a bill eliminating the reduced price meal program so kids can get the meals they need.

Monday, the Senator sat down to have lunch with students at Meadow Lake Elementary School near Minneapolis.

Franken says students are turned away with empty stomachs all the time in Minnesota schools and says it's wrong.

According to Franken's office his bill will be introduced in the next few weeks.
