Bison Fans Travel To Spokane

Posted: Updated:

It's been a thrilling season for the Bison men's basketball team. They won the Summit League Tournament and now they are headed to NCAA Tournament to face the number five seed Oklahoma Sooners. The game is on Thursday evening in Spokane, Washington.

Bags are being packed and tickets requested. Ticket request were due Monday March 17, 2014.

"With the requests we have taken were in the 300 to 375 range right now," said NDSU Athletic Ticket Director Josh Hemingway.

The maximum amount of tickets able to be purchased for each team is 550 and tickets are awarded by a priority point system.  A priority point system is based off of donations to the booster club and season ticket holders. Hemingway says fans should know by 9 p.m. Monday night via email if they will be receiving tickets and where to pick them up.

Now if you get your ticket you have less than 48 hours to figure out how you are getting approximately 1,100 miles. Will you fly? drive? or take the train?

A NDSU Basketball fan Jim Fondrick says "whatever we can pull together at this last minute."

During the Trip to Frisco, the NDSU Alumni Association was able to charter a flights but with the limited time and not knowing the location until yesterday, they were unable to assist fans this time.

"Several of the charter companies just said they were secured by the NCAA just trying to get the teams to various locations and so unfortunately it did not come together for this tournament," says NDSU Alumni Association Vice President Sherri Schmidt.

Most flights require layovers and are expensive, the cheapest Valley News Live could find was $700  one way in coach class. Some airlines have nothing available for travel on Wednesday. Although the train is cheaper, it is only about $200. It will take at least 24 hours to get there. The last option is driving and that would take 17 hours non-stop.

"Its not that far of a drive its only about 11,12 hundred miles, it is an easy two day drive," said Fondrick.

No matter which way you choose to go by plane, train or car as long as you have your golden ticket and you're with the herd it should be worth it.

If you can't get to the game in Spokane, don't worry. The NDSU Alumni Association has put together a list of all the watch parties in our area and around the country. There will be 5 location in the Fargo Area and 10 states having watch parties. Watch Party List Link.

To watch the game, it is on Tru tv and tip off is at 6:27 pm central time on Thursday March 20, 2014.
