It was a terrifying ride for a domestic violence victim in northwestern Minnesota this weekend.

The name of the woman is not being released. However, her boyfriend 29-year old Michael Alderete Junior of Virginia, Minnesota is in the Polk County Jail at Crookston tonight.

Alderete is charged with: Kidnapping, Fleeing a Peace Officer in a Motor Vehicle, D.W.I., refusing to test for D.W.I. and Domestic Assault.

It all started in the eastbound land of Highway 2 near Fisher at 6 o'clock Friday night. A motorist spotted a man holding someone down in another vehicle and called 9-1-1. The chase was on.

Sgt. Mike Norland, Polk Co. Sheriff's Dept." Sheriff's Office located the vehicle and started a pursuit. He took off as soon as we initiated our emergency lights."

Near Crookston, the suspect pulled off Highway 2 and headed north on this gravel road with a Polk County Deputy in pursuit for 2 miles.

Authorities say the suspect stopped his car near this intersection and the woman jumped out. The Deputy stopped his pursuit and gave aid to the woman, who was apparently banged up a bit. An ambulance took her to the hospital, where she was treated and released.

A short time later, the chase was on again when another Deputy spotted the suspect's vehicle near Red Lake Falls. The chase ended when Alderete drove in the ditch near Fertile.

Reporter: "Was he armed? Did he put up resistance?"

Sgt. Mike Norland: "He resisted a little. But, they were able to get him in custody."

Sgt. Norland says it's not clear yet, whether Alderete was in possession of any weapons. Alderete remains in the Polk County Jail.

Alderete has been formally charged in Polk County Court and plead not guilty. Bail was set at 25-thousand dollars cash.

His next court appearance is set for May 5.
