Warning:Phone Scam Offering Federal Grants is Bogus

Posted: Updated:

Who wouldn't want to get a call that claims you have qualified for a Federal grant worth thousands of dollars? Well turns out it's the latest scam to sweep the valley.

People claiming to be officers of the US Government Grant Department are making their rounds. They're telling people that they can sign them up for the grant by directing them to a legitimate federal website called www.grants.gov. But then they ask for a small processing fee of just four dollars, and the red flags go up.

"The government doesn't call about grants and they certainly don't ask for application fee's or processing fee's. So on a number of levels this doesn't check out," says Dan Hendrickson of the Better Business Bureau.

The calls are coming from a Utah area code of 801 today. Make sure that if you get the call you don't give them any information.
