You may have heard sonic is coming to Fargo, and you might be wondering when you can try their burgers. After about two years of searching, owners have finally picked a location!
Sonic Drive-in will be built on 45th Street and 26th Ave South. Soon, the open field near 45th street, south of interstate-29 will have a brand new place to eat.
Abe Sakak, President/CEO of Hospitality Management and Integration, LLC says, "It's got double drive though, 15 or 16 stalls, then you have a dining room inside, but you have everything that a fast food has, but much more flare."
Part of the reason they chose this lot is the apartment construction nearby is booming.
"All those apartments, we want to be their dining room, you know quick and good food," says Sakak. But, Sonic is not the first one with that idea.
First, it was Five Guys, then came Hardee's, and just down the block, JL Beers opened it's doors.
"It's the newer part of town, that's where people are moving to, is the newer part of town," says Tonya Johnson, with People's Organic in Fargo.
But, why so many restaurants? Johnson says the answer is simple, the people of Fargo need to eat. "I think Fargo in general is growing, and there is only room to grow south, it seems like everybody is growing south, so I think that's where the restaurants and things are going cause that's where the need is," says Johnson.
Thursday marks two weeks of business for People's Organic. "We don't use any extra additives, and we are a scratch kitchen so everything here is made from scratch," explains Johnson.
While they have found their niche, Sonic is brining something special to town as well. "The dining room and two sides have those big garage doors, that go up, and the whole dining room becomes a patio, like a typical sonic, when the weather allows," says Sakak.
While this part of 45th street is booming, expect to see more growth and more spots to grab a bite. Sonic hopes to be open to customers sometime in July, and a spokesman tells us they plan to open even more F-M locations in the future. They are hiring, and if you're good at roller skating they are also looking for car-hop servers to roll on in.
MARCH 26 UPDATE
Roller skaters wanted! Sonic is putting a call out for employees to help them open a new location in Fargo.
The Sonic will be located along 45th Street South in Fargo near 26th Avenue, that's between Famous Dave's BBQ and Five Guys Burgers and Fries near Anderson Park.
Abe Sakek, owner of FMI Restaurants, tells Valley News Live it will only take about 100 days to get the store up and running. He says they will break ground soon and are hoping to have the store open by the end of July, weather permitting.
The restaurant will have it's signature carhop service featuring roller-skating servers in addition to a drive thru, indoor dining area and outdoor patio.
Many of you have asked "When is Sonic coming to the Fargo area?!?!" Well we are one step closer to an answer today. We reached out to the headquarters for Sonic with that very question and here is what we were told by Patrick Lenow, Vice President of Public Relations:
"Our franchisee for the Fargo market is actively looking at sites. Because the timing of site selection, construction, etc. is variable we cannot predict timing at this point. Our goal is to serve the residents of Fargo as soon as possible."
Sonic is based in Oklahoma City. Nationwide their restaurants serve about 3 million people per day. As soon as a site is selected we will be sure to pass it along!
