Updated: Overnight Murder May be Tied to Illegal Drug Activity

Posted: Updated:

Fargo Police Chief Keith Ternes said at a news conference Friday afternoon that a 26-year-old black male is the victim of a murder overnight.  Two persons of interest, the chief said may also be considered suspects in the murder, are being questioned by investigators. The two people in custody have not been arrested and no charges have been filed yet.

Ternes said it appears the male victim died as a result of injuries sustained from a blunt or sharp object.  Investigators believe an early morning disturbance call and the homicide are connected, and may be related to illegal drug activity. He adds that they are searching for more people who may have been at the scene of the original disturbance call, but the public has no reason to fear for their safety.

Police say the 26-year-old victim is from the Cass County area, but they were not able to find a permanent address for him. They say it appears he has been living in several locations in and around the Fargo area. The victim's name is not being released until family can be notified.

The Fargo Police Department continues to investigate this murder, and is working in conjunction with other area law enforcement agencies as they search for other possible suspects related to this case.
