NDSU Student Senate Pushing To Make Extreme Weather An Excused Absence

Posted: Updated:

Local NDSU students say this winter was harsh, and created some dangerous situations. Whether you were walking or driving to school. Some NDSU student senate members are trying to do something about that issue.

They want to add extreme weather as an excuse to miss class, and say there is no formal policy right now for those students who decide to stay home when weather is rough.

For supporters, the next move is to talk it over with other student senators, if they agree, it will be forwarded to the faculty senate.

Jon Lipp, NDSU Senate Member says, "The weather is so bad here, but we are so used to it, sometimes there are expectations of students that well if the teacher can make it to class then the students should make it to class, and that's not always a feasible option."

Right now, a committee decides whether school will be closed because of the weather, and that includes a climatologist.
