Posted: Updated:

At least two people died and 23 were hurt at the South by Southwest interactive and music festival in Austin, Texas, county medical officials said, who responded to reports that a car had plowed into a crowd.

The car ran a barricade, police told CNN affiliate KXAN.

Ten of the injured were taken to hospital. Five were in serious condition. Police have apprehended the driver, KXAN reported.

Photos and video posted to social media showed people lying on the street and sidewalk for about a block with first responders kneeling over them. In one incident, they could be seen performing CPR.

Eyewitnesses speaking on a Youtube video said that a car sped through the crowd, tossing some victims into the air and knocking others down.
