Minnesota Lawmaker Gets Attention for Controversial Tweet

Posted: Updated:

A Minnesota lawmaker is getting national attention for a tweet that some are calling racist.

Representative Pat Garofalo's comment read, "Let's be honest, 70% of teams in NBA could fold tomorrow + nobody would notice a difference w/ possible exception of increase in streetcrime."

Garofalo is a republican from Farmington, MN. He told Kare11 he was surprised by the response to his tweet and said it had nothing to do with the fact that the majority of NBA athletes are African American.

He said he was talking about the NBA's high arrest rate and what he perceives as an attitude among professional athletes that they are above the law.
