Start Up Weekend Comes To Fargo, Young Entrepreneurs Make A Splash

Posted: Updated:

New businesses are on the horizon in the Red River Valley. Around 100 young entrepreneurs are putting their heads together at Start Up Weekend 2014." The event kicked off yesterday, with participants pitching ideas. Today those teams are turning their ideas into reality.

Jon Walters is part of team Love Handles. A team that is creating a product for Start Up Weekend. "This is not just a fake little thing we are just doing for the weekend, this is going to be something big in Fargo," says Walters.

Ideas are coming together though young minds in the Fargo-Moorhead area. "Invigorating, there is so much drive, determination," says Walters.

Team Love Handles is creating something never seen before. "It's a new mug, but it's a duel mug, so the idea is in order to drink you have to drink together, so you connect your mugs, or you have a mug that's already connected, and in order to drink you have to snuggle up to your bro and drink together, or it will spill," says Jake Joraanstad, also part of Love Handles.

"We just want people to start drinking in new ways that's fun and enjoyable for them where you guys can each have your mug, you come in together and boom you can drink, all of a sudden, bang, ties it together, you guys are sitting right next to each other, drinking real close, arms around each other, all of sudden it's the most ultimate social drinking event," explains Walters.

They are creating the very first Bro Mug right here, and soon, you can pre-order them. "The 3d printer is the first prototype so we can easily show people what this things looks like when it's done," says Joraanstad.

Designers, technologists, marketers, students are all coming together. "They are able to stay up all night long and work off of two hours of sleep with a little bit of coffee in the morning," says Walters.

These young minds might just be creating the new biggest thing in Fargo-Moorhead. Judges will award three winners on Sunday. Some of the prizes include free website hosting for 6 months, and free business mentoring.
