Bill Would Ban Tanning For Minors In Minnesota

Posted: Updated:

Those getting ready for Prom and vacation could see a new law take place setting limits on the age of people using tanning salons.

A bill is moving through the Minnesota Legislature proposing to ban anyone under the age of 18 from tanning salons.

Authors of the bill say the tanning ban should be at 18, the same age to buy cigarettes, because both can cause cancer.

Representative Mary Franson told Valley News Live she voiced a no vote in the sub-committee because she doesn't believe it's the proper roll of the government to put those restrictions on people. Franson says instead it should be up to the parents.

Friday night on Valley News Live at 5pm hear more from the view of a Moorhead tanning salon and what they say the ban could do to their business.
