Minnesota Medical Marijuana Bill Moves Forward

Posted: Updated:

Legalizing medical marijuana in Minnesota is one step closer to becoming a reality, but it still faces a long road.

The House Health and Human Services Policy Committee approved the bill Tuesday night.  The House Government Operations Committee will be the next group to review the bill.

The proposed medical marijuana bill would allow the Minnesota Department of Health to issue ID cards to patients who are prescribed the drug by a physician.

Governor Tim Pawlenty vetoed a similar plan passed by lawmakers in 2009 because of opposition from law-enforcement.  Current Governor Mark Dayton has taken a similar stance.
