NDSU Celebrates Century of Theatre with Sweeney Todd

Posted: Updated:

It's a big weekend on the North Dakota State University Campus, as they mark 100 years of theatre.

One of the ways NDSU is celebrating this milestone, is with the production of "Sweeney Todd." This famous musical is set in an a very dark and eerie 1840's London. When Benjamin Barker (Sweeney Todd) escapes from prison to seek revenge on those who've wronged him.

Barker turns into a demonic serial killer as he lures his victims into his "demon barber shop," above Mrs. Lovett's pie shop. The two team up and begin making pies with their "unfortunate customers." A musical that NDSU Theatre Department Artistic Director Hardy Koenig, describes as a very unique story to see.

"It's one of those shows if your jaw doesn't drop down from seeing this than you're not paying attention, it's a great show, the music is great, the story is amazing," said Koenig.

Sweeney Todd opens at the Festival Concert Hall on Thursday, February 27th and runs through Sunday, March 2nd, 2014. Show times are 7:30 p.m. and 2:00p.m. for the Sunday matinee.

Tickets start at $20 for the general public but there are discounted opportunities for senior citizens, NDSU students, faculty & alumni.

The Festival Concert Hall is located inside the Reineke Fine Arts Center at the corner of 12th Ave. North and Bolley Drive on the NDSU campus in Fargo.
