Annual Cherry Pie Supper Saturday in Moorhead

Posted: Updated:

The kitchen at First Presbyterian Church in Moorhead has been buzzing with activity all day long as bakers prepare dozens of pies for the congregations annual Cherry Pie Supper.

The big meal happening Saturday includes ham, potatoes, all the fixings and, of course, dessert. Organizers expect to feed between 500-700 hungry mouths.

The annual supper is a staple in the church's annual fundraising. Reverend Elaine Sveet says First Presbyterian was the first church in the Red River Valley, and the special supper has been an annual tradition of the church for more than 75 years now.

"A lot of us are second generation," explains pie maker Elizabeth Swee. "Our families, our mothers made pies and we are making 120 pies.  So at 720 we are done cause that's how many pieces we get out of a pie."

The supper runs from 4:00-8:00 Saturday at First Presbyterian in Moorhead. Tickets are $10.50 for adults and $4.50 for kids at the door.
