Skating legend Evgeni Plushenko pulls out of men's individual event

Posted: Updated:

Evgeni Plushenko, a four-time medal-winner in the Olympics, will not have a chance to win gold in the men's individual event in Sochi.

This is a headline here in the States, but massive news over in Russia, his home country.

The beloved 31-year-old skater was forced to pull out of the event before the finals at the last moment due to back issues. Reports from the scene are that Plushenko tweaked his back during warmups.

Plushenko won his second gold earlier this week as part of the team competition. He won gold in the individual men's event at 2006 in Turin, Italy.

Related: a viral video from SB Nation's Brian Floyd, who flawlessly put Ginuwine's classic, Pony, to one of Plushenko's older routines. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
