Undercover Sting in Grand Forks to Catch Underage Drinkers

Posted: Updated:

The Grand Forks Sheriff's Office recently conducted an undercover sting to try and catch minors drinking illegally, or people providing alcohol to minors. It happened on February 9 at The Band Perry concert at the Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Deputies worked undercover in plain clothes looking specifically for alcohol violations. During the concert, deputies had personal contact with thirty people. Of those thirty, one person was cited for providing alcohol to a minor and three were cited for minor in possession/consumption.

The minor in possession or consumption of alcohol is a B Misdemeanor and could cost $1,000 or 30 days in jail. If you give alcohol to a minor, you could be fined $2,000 or one year in jail.

The Grand Forks Sheriff's Office says these enforcement strategies are funded by the Enforcing of Underage Drinking Laws Grand awarded by the North Dakota Department of Transportation.
