You Could Be The Next Galileo

Posted: Updated:

It's your chance to be an astronomer, or learn how to be one if you've always wanted to know more about space.

The Fargo-Moorhead Astronomy Club is hosting an opportunity to teach you about the universe and star gazing. The event is designed for those who may have got a telescope for Christmas, or have one that just sits and collects dust.

"Telescopes are a little more complex than just 'point and look.' Telescopes may need some adjusting and maintenance, or maybe you don't know what to look at. We can help with those kinds of questions," said Dave Weinrich, Astronomy Club President.

Weinrich, reminds that even though it can be intimidating, you don't have to be a scientist or expert astronomer to use a telescope.

Attendees will be able to view resources for telescope observers, as well as learn how to:

  • Read star maps
  • Use binoculars for astronomy
  • Assemble a simple telescope
  • Even observe the night sky through a telescope (weather permitting)

The event will take place from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11th at the Wanzek Center for Scouting, 4200 19th Ave. South in Fargo.
