Posted: Updated:

North Dakota State stormed out to an early lead and never trailed in a 69-58 win over Fort Wayne in Summit League men's basketball before a season-high crowd of 4,557 fans at the Bison Sports Arena on Saturday, Feb. 8.

TrayVonn Wright led the Bison with 15 points and Kory Brown had career highs of 13 points and seven assists as the Bison gained sole possession of first place in the league standings, improving to 18-6 overall and 7-2 in The Summit League.

NDSU earned its second-largest lead of the game within the first seven minutes of the first half. Senior Taylor Braun scored the first five points, while three others pitched in to give the Bison a 16-2 lead at the 13:22 mark.

A series of IPFW runs cut the lead to four midway through the first half, but the Bison went into halftime with a 32-26 lead.

The second half began similar to the first, with NDSU going out on a 12-3 run to start the half. Sophomore Brown scored six of his career-high 13 points during the stretch that gave the Bison a 44-29 lead.

Fort Wayne cut the lead to five multiple times and was able to get the deficit down to four with less than 4 minutes left to play, but Brown was able to secure a tip-in and Wright put in a one-hand slam off a pass from Brown to put the game out of reach.

Taylor Braun pitched in 14 points and Lawrence Alexander finished with 11 for NDSU.

The Mastodons (18-8, 6-3 Summit) had two players score in the double-digits, with Steve Forbes leading Fort Wayne with 17 and Luis Jacobo registering 12 points.

The Bison travel to take on the Western Illinois Fighting Leathernecks in their next game at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, in Macomb, Ill.
