Two Dead After High-Speed Chase In Eden Prairie, MN

Posted: Updated:

(From KARE) Two people are confirmed dead and a major metro highway is shut down after a police chase led to gunfire in Eden Prairie shortly before 8 a.m. Friday.

Minnesota State Patrol spokesman Lt. Eric Roeske confirms that two were shot after the pursuit ended near Highway 212 and Dell Road in Eden Prairie. While authorities didn't officially release information on the shooting until 10:30 a.m., pictures from SKY 11 showed a pair of bodies under a yellow tarps.

MnDOT traffic cameras showed State Patrol troopers and local law enforcement pursuing a vehicle eastbound on Highway 212 out of Carver County and into Eden Prairie. The suspect's hood had popped up and was blocking the windshield but the driver still managed to evade squads that were trying to block the road.

Eventually one officer pulled a "pit maneuver", by using his or her squad to spin out the suspect vehicle and send it careening into a wall. Cameras looked on as the suspect exited the vehicle and began fighting with at least one officer. It was at that point that gunshots were allegedly fired.

Robert Ball of Hennepin County EMS confirms that two ambulances were sent to the scene, but no one was transported.

MnDOT says the eastbound lanes of Highway 212 will be shut down until at least noon while investigators reconstruct the shooting scene. Westbound lanes will also be shut down for an undetermined amount of time.

KARE 11 has crews en route to the scene and will have the latest information as it becomes available
