On February 6, the Dilworth City Council officially fired the city's former fire chief. Kurt Kennedy was the Dilworth Fire Chief for a number of years.
The council met in a special session at 5:00 p.m. at the Dilworth City Hall. They discussed the matter behind the chamber's closed doors for an hour before a motion was approved to immediately terminate Kennedy. Council members would not comment publicly about the termination.
Court documents obtained from the Clay County Courthouse state a charge was filed against Kennedy for making terroristic threats. The documents say around December 5, 2013, Kennedy threatened several city employees, including the current Dilworth Fire Chief.
The complaint says Kennedy claimed that the fire department ruined his life and he had a plan of revenge. It went on to say that no one was going to expect it and that he would begin by burning down homes of members of the fire department.
The documents say someone who was with Kennedy at a bar on the night he made threats says he was drunk and making statements about everyone on the fire department turning their backs on him. Kennedy says he does not remember making the threats.
