Warning About Freezing Pipes in Bemidji, MN

Posted: Updated:

The City of Bemidji is warning people about freezing pipes and is offering preventative advice.

Water and sewer superintendent Todd Anderson says due to extreme frost depth, many water lines have been freezing.  In order to keep more lines from freezing, they recommend customers test he temperature of the cold water coming out of the tap periodically.

If the water temperature is below 34º or 35º, let your water run at a stream the size of a pencil 24/7. Continue this until mid-April or until the water temperature comes back up over 34º.

Anderson says customers must call city hall at 218-759-3564 to report you are running your water.  He says you will be charged for the water used, but only your normal sewer rate.
