Motivational Monday: The Importance of Stretching

We all know we should stretch, but a lot of us skip it anyway. In The Valley Today's "Motivational Monday", our health and fitness expert says it's a bad idea to ignore the importance of stretching.

Cathy Piatt says stretching will help your flexibility, but there is more to it. She says it's good for your joints, it can help decrease muscle soreness and reduce your risk for injury.

In our video, Piatt shows us four easy stretches. She covers the hamstrings, calves, quadriceps and hip flexor.

Piatt recommends you warm up for 5-10 minutes before you start your stretching routine. It may include a short walk at the gym or warming up your muscles after a warm bath or shower at home.
