Investigators are looking into an unattended death in a rural farm house in Cass County.
They say they are still in the very early stages of the case.
Investigators were called to a Cass County farm house on January 12 at 6:30 in the evening and found the body of a 58-year-old man.
At this point they are not telling his name, but are saying conditions in the home were terrible.
They are still waiting for the autopsy results. According to Captain Mitch Burris of the Cass County Sheriff's Office, it was the suspicious nature of this unattended death that called for further investigation.
Valley News Live asked if elder abuse is a possibility. He didn't give us a direct answer, but did say this:
"In reference to elder abuse, I think we're just starting to see some of these cases that we may not have thought previously that they could be elder abuse, which now we're finding out, potentially are," he says.
Captain Burris also told Valley News Live that everyone has cooperated in the investigation.
