Moorhead Denies Funds for Library

Posted: Updated:

Moorhead residents who like to stop by the library on Sunday to pick out a new read will no longer be able to do so.

Monday night, the Moorhead city council rejected a request for nearly 41-thousand dollars in funding for the library. The money would have been used to keep full hours, services, and staffing.

About a dozen people came to City Hall to voice their support of the library. However, in a close vote, the proposal to take needed funds from city reserves failed. The city does plan to set up a library task force, hoping to find the needed money within the library's existing budget.

Reduced hours for the library will start this Saturday, and the library will no longer be open on Sundays.
