Ice Fishing From The Warmth Of The Indoors

Posted: Updated:

While this weekend's weather is making it hard for many ice fishers to make it to the lake. A smaller, much warmer version is going on in Downtown Fargo. The YMCA teamed up with the F-M Walleyes to teach children the ropes of ice fishing from the comfort of the indoors.

The fish are fake, the ice is pretend, but the skills they're learning are absolutely real.

They even brought in an ice fishing house, and a couple real minnows to get the kids excited about the sport.

Some young fishermen and women even won prizes depending on the size of the catch.

Arnie Ellingson- F-M Walleye Charter Member: "it's a situation where there's a lot of young people don't have a chance to get down to the lakes, whether it's summer or winter, and this is just a little more unusual, and it just gives them the chance to go ice fishing."

All the money raised at this event goes towards YMCA's summer overnight camp on lake cormorant.
