Child Sex Offender Accused of Scamming Area Churches

Authorities are warning the public about a child sex offender who has been scamming area churches. Kenneth Monk has been reported scamming churches out of money in several North Dakota towns.

Police say Monk has been walking into a church and telling the congregation that his wife was just in a car accident and has died. He states that he has to get to Forest, MS to go to the funeral and be with his children.

Each time the people of the church have given him money. The incidents have been reported in Washburn, Wilton and Velva, North Dakota.

Monk is a child sex offender from California for which he is on probation for. He drives a 1999 Burgundy Suburban with North Dakota plates. The photo attached to this story was provided by the North Dakota State and Local Intelligence Center. It is not his actual vehicle, but is similar to what he may be driving.

Monk is about 5'9 and 140 pounds with brown hair and eyes. If you see him, do not approach him and contact your local law enforcement.
