For the sixth year in a row the YMCA of Cass and Clay counties and AmeriCorps of North Dakota is holding their annual Food & Fleece drive.

The drive kicked off earlier this week on Martin Luther King Day, accepting donations of non-perishable food and fleece, which will be made into blankets.

Last year the drive brought in more than 2,500 items for local shelters, this year they hope to reach or exceed that goal.

"We want to do something as big as we can to help shelters in our community that have been hard hit this year with the extreme weather," says Jill Deitz, AmeriCorps Program Coordinator at the YMCA.

Suggested food donations include: Canned meat, peanut butter, pasta & pasta sauce, canned vegetables & fruit, breakfast items, coffee, or canned soup.

Donations of fleece in one yard increments are also needed to be made into blankets. Items can be dropped off through Friday at both YMCA location in Fargo.

Fercho YMCA, at 400 1st Ave. S. Fargo, Schlossman YMCA, at 4243 19th Ave. S. Fargo. or any YMCA child care location or school with a YMCA program.
