REDDING, Calif., Jan. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- While officials say that there's a good possibility the slopes will open soon at the Mt. Shasta and Mt.?Ashland ski parks in northern California, visitor's and locals are buzzing about other winter adventures in Redding and the Shasta Cascade. From the January 19th Redding Marathon, a 2015 Boston Marathon qualifier, to snowshoeing and winter hiking and biking, this low rainfall winter is filled with opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors.

The 2014 Annual Redding Marathon this Sunday, January 19, will join a handful of marathons across the country to be named a Boston Qualifier race for 2015. The race starts at the Shasta Dam Visitors Center and organizers are offing shuttles from the Redding Visitors Center to the start line. For more information, visit www.reddingmarathon.org.

Ranger Led Snowshoe Hikes

From January 11th through March 23rd (weather permitting), visitors are invited to Lassen Volcanic National Park to take in the beautiful scenery from different perspective on a walk in the woods by snowshoeing. Go it alone or join one of the many ranger-led snowshoe walks. Snowshoes are available for participants with a suggested $1 donation, and rangers lead one to two mile adventures exploring winter ecology and Lassen's geologic history.

Mt. Shasta Ski Park

Big Air, Saturday Feb 22nd
Witness aerial stunts off of Mt Shasta's epic ski jumps and enjoy music and fun beginning at 10am with the contest commencing at Noon. There is a $10 entry fee.

Rail Jam, Saturday March 15th
