Moorhead Funding Shortfall Prompts Library Cuts

Posted: Updated:

The Moorhead City library will have to cut back on some services because of a $40, 000 dollar cut in the latest city budget. Five staff positions have already been eliminated, and starting February 1, the library will be open 13 fewer hours a week.

The Moorhead Public Library is a branch of the Lake Agassiz Regional Library. Without full funding, the Library cannot afford to maintain current levels of service. To account for the shortfall, open hours per week will be reduced from 69 down to 56. This reduction includes changes to hours Monday through Saturday and the elimination of Sunday hours.

The new hours will be from Monday to Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and the library will now be closed on Sundays.
