Fire Damages Crookston, MN Restaurant

Posted: Updated:

A Monday morning fire damaged part of a Crookston, Minnesota, restaurant.

Fire officials say the fire started in the kitchen of the Irishman's Shanty around 10:45 a.m. The building's sprinkler system kicked in and doused the flames, but not before they got into the ceiling area.

Firefighters were still on the scene at noon, checking the attic spaces to make sure the fire was out. There is fire, smoke and water damage to part of the kitchen and roof areas.

The Crookston Fire Department continues to investigate the cause of the fire, however, Captain Bob Magsam says they are fairly confident the fire started when an aerosol cooking spray can heated and exploded in the kitchen which started a fire near the grill exhaust system.

The Shanty is on the south end of Crookston at 1501 South Main Street. No one was reported injured in the incident.
