Posted: Updated:

Grand Forks Police confirm a 24-year-old man who was shot Wednesday has died. He has been identified as Adam Denevan.

A preliminary investigation indicates Denevan was handling a handgun when the firearm discharged, causing the injury.  At this time it appears the injury was accidental in nature, however, no official determination has been made.

The investigation into this situation is ongoing. Lt. Michael Ferguson tells Valley News Live an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday and more information may be released following that.

Grand Forks Police officers are investigating what lead to a shooting on the city's south side. On Wednesday, about 1:15 p.m. officers responded after a report of a gunshot injury.

Officers arrived to the area of 1951 28th Avenue South and located a 24-year-old Grand Forks resident who suffered a serious injury. That person was transported to Altru Hospital.

The police department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. Lt. Mike Ferguson tells Valley News Live that one other person was in the apartment when the person was shot. No one else was injured and no one has been arrested. He says at this time, they just don't know what happened.
