Restaurant Report Card: Grand Forks Edition

Posted: Updated:

It's Tuesday, that means we're bringing you a dose of your weekly restaurant report card. We scour the health inspectors notes and find out which restaurants in your neighborhood are getting written up by the health inspector. This week back by popular demand Valley News team's Eric Crest traveled to Grand Forks to find which restaurants let the violations stack up and which one has only had only one violation to speak of in over a year.

When the health inspector shows up for a look around the kitchen no one knows it's coming. For the Green Mill in Grand Forks that's part of why they were cited nearly 25 times in their last two inspections.

Just six of those violations were deemed critical, meaning they have the potential of getting you sick. Those violations include food in the kitchen without a date, moldy fruit in their walk in cooler and on three separate occasions this Green Mill had food at improper temperatures.

The manager tells us the problems were taken care of immediately and he's not used to getting written up for so many violations. He also said the food stored improperly was thrown away immediately and he takes the violations seriously.

The next restaurant with stand out violations was the Muddy Rivers Bar and Grill. Over a span of just eight months they had 28 violations. The inspector noted their ovens need to be cleaned, their ice machine had mold, their bar had outdated milk and half and half and this next one is quite bizarre. The inspector noted that a pet dog was in the kitchen, which is a critical violation and according to the inspector, unacceptable at anytime..

We reached out to the manager at Muddy Rivers Bar and Grill and they stated that they had no comment.

But this next one should impress you a bit. At the Five Guys Burgers and Fries in Grand Forks they have only had one, total, violation in over a year. They say it takes a lot of hard work and that keeping on top of your daily tasks is the only way to make it all doable.

Congratulations to Five Guys Burgers and Fries on this weeks clean plate award. If you want to see for yourself if your favorite restaurant is behaving in the kitchen we've included a link to the Grand Forks Public Health Department's website on valleynewslive.com.
