Cause Of Devils Lake Fire Ruled: "Undetermined"

Posted: Updated:

Devils Lake Fire Chief, Jim Moe says the official cause of a fire that destroyed the Dakota Dried Bean Elevator on Monday will remain, "undetermined".

Moe says there are 3 possible causes… an over heated bearing, dust on light fixtures or spontaneous combustion.  Moe says spontaneous combustion is the likely culprit. That's when wet, molding material and the gases from it, burst into flames.

The elevator and the 100-thousand bushels of pea by-products used for pet food was valued at one-million dollars.

Fire Chief Moe says the insurance company will make the final determination regarding the cause of the fire.
